On Saturday after 8:00 a.m., he went to a house for work. The employer stated that Torres requested an advance payment of one million pesos to proceed with painting tasks. The accused of running over, killing, and abandoning Eugenia Carril, the 18-year-old who was returning from studying at the University of La Plata on Friday night, is a 41-year-old painter who, hours after the incident, went to work as if nothing had happened. Police sources told the Noticias Argentinas agency that the accused, identified as Julio Cornelio Guerra Torres, a Peruvian national, went to a residence in Parque Sicardi to work along with two laborers. The implicated individual remained at large for over 24 hours but, due to intense social pressure, turned himself in at the DDI La Plata precinct, located at 1 and 59. "He collected that money and remained a fugitive for several hours," an investigator recounted. Police raided several homes of the accused's associates during the early hours of Sunday but failed to capture him. However, around 11:00 a.m., they found the Chevrolet Meriva parked at 5 and 57. The case is under the supervision of prosecutor Fernando Padovan, head of Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) No. 12 of La Plata, and he will interrogate the detainee at the judicial headquarters on Monday morning. The charges against him are for "Aggravated culpable homicide due to driving a motor vehicle and for abandoning the victim to their fate without providing assistance" (Article 84 bis of the Penal Code). Meanwhile, the vehicle used to kill the victim is registered in Chubut and has repeated traffic violations.
